Friday August 12, 2011
Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, stated Thursday that the future Palestinian state will be under the security responsibility of a third party, NATO forces, led by the United States of America.
His statements came as we welcomed US Senators and legislators visiting the presidential headquarters in the Central West Bank city of Ramallah, the Maan News Agency reported.Abbas said that the official Palestinian policy aims at arriving to a political solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, based on the two-state solution, and a full Israeli withdrawal from all Palestinian territories occupied in 1967, with East Jerusalem as the capital of this state. The Palestinian President Added that the Palestinian State must be empty from all Israeli settlements. He said that “the first, second and third choices that the Palestinians prefer is to achieve an independent state through negotiations”, and added that Israel is acting in a way that voids the whole peace process, mainly by the ongoing construction and expansion of Jewish-only settlements in the occupied territories. As for the Palestinian plan to head to the United Nations to seek international recognition of the Palestinian State, Abbas stated that this move does not contradict the peace process, and cannot be considered as a unilateral move. He added that this move does not aim at isolating or delegitimizing Israel, and only aims at confirming the two-state solution.Abbas also stated that should Israel have the real intentions to return to serious peace talks, observed by the international community, it will find a committed Palestinian partner. Abbas’s political advisor, Nimir Hammad, stated that some congress members asked Abbas about his opinion regarding the Israeli demand of a Palestinian recognition of the country as a “Jewish State”, the Right of Return of the Palestinian refugees and the Palestinian reconciliation agreement, and that Abbas confirmed that the Palestinian stances have never changed, and that Israel must adhere to the international law and all related Security Council and United Nations resolutions. Hammad added that Abbas is a man of peace and credibility, and that everyone who listens to him will realize the credible stances and positions that are based on the international law, and will also realize the false nature of the Israeli propaganda that aims at delegitimizing the internationally guaranteed rights of the Palestinian people.
